Grass Roots Market

Tagged: , , , ,

I love a good community market and this is one of them. The Grass Roots Market in Upwey is a must visit because it’s truly local, you can meet the lovely stallholders and share in their stories. and try out the fantastic food and coffee on site.

Located in the heart of Upwey, this market has been running for a number of years and has a loyal following from locals and from those on the fringes of Melbourne. With products like pictured above and below – you can see why.

Having visited dozens and dozens of markets, there wasn’t one stallholder here that I’d seen elsewhere, which assures me they are locals but even more, it’s an opportunity for people with a product that’s worth launching to try it out here.

The pottery below was beautifully made and as I was here prior to Mother’s Day, had to pick up a piece for my mum who loves pottery that has multi purposes. Not sure if she’ll use this to put her teabags in, her earrings or maybe some nuts at a party.

I always like to try something new and today I tried the paper dosa. Haven’t had one as nice as this since I was in Fiji. This one was particularly delicious and included a lovely sauce that had a nice bit of spice to it. The dosa itself wasn’t spicy.

The beauty of this stall is you can try before you buy. Beef, chicken and vegetarian – whatever takes your fancy. $10 for a paper dosa which is filling. Ate at 11am, didn’t eat until dinner at 6pm.

If you’d like to see how they make the paper dosa click here.

As always I’d recommend you bring your own bag or trolley along so plastic bags don’t have to be used. Also try to bring smaller notes. We all know that the ATM’s dispense $50’s and stall holders are prepared for that but when so many people turn up with larger notes it becomes problematic for them.

If you wait around until 11am you’ll experience the treat of local musicians who will have you clapping and toe tapping with their great music.
