There is nothing quite like meeting the maker behind the products and I was fortunate enough to meet a number of delightful women today at the Ivanhoe Makers Market.
Located off the main drag of Lower Heidelberg Road in Ivanhoe, this market is administered and located at the Livingstone Community Centre. On the day I was there were around 25 stallholders, although I’m told there has been more in the past.
Some of the gorgeous items showcased today were:
- Wood craft
- Dukka and chai
I’m always astounded by the cleverness of people and this market is no exception. Helen from Sew’N’Sew is one talented woman. She’s not only designed a wonderful collection of items for a parent (nappy bag, change mat, nappy wallet) but also the most adorable Baby Born clothes at affordable prices.
Lena Kuhl Jakobsen makes the most stunning ceramic pieces that are quite a signature. The designs are delicate and quirky with shapes that enchant anyone who sees them. Her work can be found not just at the market but at a number of stockists around Melbourne. You can find more about Lena at her website here.
A variety of stalls offer a wide selection of unique handmade quality wares ideal for that special gift for family, friends or yourself.
I loved this product above so much, I bought some and had it for dinner. Neha from Subtle Spice Creations was helpful in explaining her spice blends, tea blends and dukkas. For 10 years, husband and wife team have put their experience together to make a love of spices into a food business. You can find more information here.
Nicole from Nicole Cleary Aromatherapy has a wide variety of hand-made / home-made products that will make you ‘look good, feel great, live longer’. I bought a cute little soap washer that will make the perfect gift for a friend. Her creams, oils, balms, soaps and tea are worth a try knowing you are buying from a professional aromatherapist who has a passion for good health. You can find more information here.
As always I’d recommend you bring your own bag or trolley along so plastic bags don’t have to be used.
