Kyo – Ocean Grove

Tagged: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

I’d say I’ve visited this place every time I visit Ocean Grove which is at least four times a year. Each time, I find something new and interesting as well as those old familiar pieces that I can rely on. This is a trade warehouse that is also open to the public.

There is a very large range of funky, unique and interesting pieces from all around the world albeit with a little bit of an Asian flavour. The owners source their stock from Argentina, India, China and Japan but I’m sure places like Korea and Bali are included in this.

Kyo is located within the Industrial Estate just on the northern side of Ocean Grove. Very easy to find – just follow the signs. There are two very large warehouse style sheds that are brimming over with furniture, antiques, outdoor ‘stuff’, trinkets, homewares, textiles, lights, art, kitchen wear, mirrors, stools, door knobs and so much more.

New stock arrives on a regular basis so although there are the same mainstream items, you can come regularly and still find something new.

So adore this day bed that is in my favourite colour but I live in a small place so it wouldn’t fit – unless I give up my dining room and eat off my lap for the rest of my life.

I bought a Japanese sterilizing cabinet here a few years ago but just didn’t have a vehicle to get it home and they offered delivery in a good time frame at a reasonable rate so please ask at the counter for more details.

For those with little kids, there is this cute little play centre that should keep the little ones amused for a little while. I used to bring my kids here when they were younger and send them on a treasure hunt to look for something in particular – worked every time. If you’re bringing young children to have snacks, food and ways of keeping them happy as they may get bored quickly.

I’m not really into animal skin but do appreciate the beauty in it. These skins took my fancy and I wondered if I could live with that in my house. Still not sure. Most probably not despite the fact that I think they are stunning.

Just got rid of my very expensive bed and bed head. Thinking I might use a door as a new bed head as these are quite funky and different to a regular door. Thoughts?

And then you see something bazaar such as this photo above. The front of a bemo (tuk tuk) with mannequin heads that are used by hairdressing students. Not sure if I liked it or I’ll have nightmares over it.

You can easily spend a minimum of an hour here and would recommend you wear comfortable shoes and bring a drink bottle. Camera is useful if you want to think about items after you’ve left.

This cabinet above was the only one in Kyo yet 12 months ago there were quite a few of them. Each locker has a wooden card and when you take the card out – it locks the cabinet ergo – a key. For $1800 it’s yours.

Would love to buy this a drive around the streets of my neighbourhood but it’s not legal but heck it would be good fun. For $3,500 – it’s yours.

I was in Egypt in 2016 and saw many of these lights. They are stunning and cast the most gorgeous light. Certainly a talking point.

Staff are truly delightful, helpful and friendly. No question was to silly and were very good at pointing me in the right direction for particular items I was looking for.
